Three decades in the global textile trade.

Somani Impex Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated in Mumbai on 6 July 1989. We have traded the textile value chain from fibers to garments ever since — quietly, on repeat business, with the same family answering for the results.

Our story

Founded in Mumbai. Built one shipment at a time.

The company began in 1989 as a Mumbai trading house, working the yarn and fabric market on a small number of relationships and a plain commitment to honour what had been agreed.

That is still how the business grows. Enquiries led to shipments, shipments led to repeat programmes, and repeat programmes led our customers to ask whether we could handle the stage before — or the stage after. Over time the remit widened from yarn into fiber at one end and finished garments at the other, and the map widened with it: Bangladesh, China, Turkey, Vietnam, Pakistan and Egypt on the supply side; Germany, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Peru and South Korea on the demand side.

We remained deliberately what we started as — a trading and sourcing house. We do not own mills and we do not run factories. Our value lies in knowing who does, which of them can hold the specification you have written, and what the right price is this week.

What we believe

Four principles that have not changed since 1989.

A trading house is only as good as the word it gives. These are the standards we hold ourselves to, and the ones our customers are entitled to hold us to.

Judgement over volume

We would rather send an enquiry to the two mills that can genuinely make it than to twenty who will quote and then explain. Fewer offers, better ones.

Continuity of relationships

The same family has run this business since 1989. Suppliers and customers deal with people who were there for the last programme and expect to be there for the next.

Transparency on price and lead time

An honest date is worth more than an attractive one. If the market has moved or the mill is full, we say so at the enquiry stage rather than at the shipment stage.

Accountability after the order

Our involvement does not end when the contract is signed. We stay in the transaction through inspection, shipment and documentation, and we bring you bad news early.

Leadership

A small board, closely held.

Somani Impex is directed by the family that founded it. The team is senior and deliberately compact, which means decisions are taken by the people you speak to rather than passed through a hierarchy.

Where we sit

How we fit into your supply chain.

A trading house is worth having when it takes on work that would otherwise land on your desk. That is the honest description of what we do.

We carry the search cost. Finding the mill that can hold your shade at your weight, in your quantity, on your date, is slow and unglamorous work. Doing it once for many customers is far cheaper than each of them doing it alone. Three decades in the same markets is what makes the search short.

We carry the quality risk. We inspect at the stage where a problem can still be fixed, against a standard agreed in advance, and we raise issues while the goods are still in the supplier's hands rather than after they have landed in yours.

We carry the coordination burden. Sampling, order follow-up, freight, documentation and customs coordination sit with us. You hold one conversation instead of six, in one time zone instead of four.

What we do not do is pretend to be a manufacturer. We are the party between the mill and the buyer, and we think that role is best done in plain sight.

Questions we are asked

The things worth establishing early.

Straight answers to the questions that usually come first. Anything specific to your programme is best settled in conversation.

No. Somani Impex is a sourcing, trading and marketing organisation. We do not own mills, spinning units or factories. We identify the producers best suited to a requirement, negotiate on your behalf, supervise quality against an agreed standard and manage the shipment. Being independent of any single mill is precisely what allows us to recommend the right one.

It depends entirely on the product and the producer. A greige fabric order, a specialty yarn count and a garment programme carry very different practical minimums, and mills set their own. Send us the specification and the quantity you have in mind, and we will tell you plainly whether it is workable and with whom.

Terms are agreed contract by contract. We trade on the standard Incoterms and on payment arrangements customary to the market and the route in question. What we settle before anything is confirmed is the incoterm, the payment instrument, the inspection standard and the shipment window — in writing, so that no part of the transaction rests on assumption.

By trying to prevent it. The specification and the inspection standard are fixed before production, and inspection takes place at the stage where a deviation can still be corrected. Where a claim does arise, we take it up directly with the producer and stay in it until it is resolved. We remain the counterparty you deal with; you are not sent to argue with a mill on another continent.

We operate across thirteen markets: India, where we are headquartered, together with Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, Peru, Portugal, South Korea, Turkey and Vietnam. Enquiries from outside these markets are welcome — whether we can serve them well depends on the product and the route, and we will say so either way.
